FW2011/2012 La Pianiste
The collection is based on the book ”The Piano teacher” by Elfriede Jelinek. My muse is the 40 year old piano teacher Erika Kohut, the central figure in the book. She still lives with her mother and teaches piano since she never became a star. She is different, some call her mentally ill. She sneaks out from her controlling mother as often as she can to watch young lovers in the park. At home she sometimes cut herself on her abdomen. The young student Walter Klemmer seduces her and she defeats him with her sick thoughts and her disgust for the human body.
I’ve tried to catch a feeling of corporeality by using nude colours in different shades and material that I found close to the body. Examples are slinky materials in lycra and light silk, both transparent and none transparent. I have also thought about her obsessive way of cutting herself so an important part has been to cut fabrics. I’ve made the key pieces in wool or leather that I’ve sliced in various thicknesses. Erika also dresses quite frumpy and there are lots of influences of that. Examples are the underwear, the length of skirts, the blouse and properly dressed style.
